Migraine vs. Tension Headache

Sometimes I wonder if people know the difference between a migraine headache and a tension headache. Out of the thousands of people that have called our clinic with "migraines" I do not think so. They think because they have a really bad headache it is a migraine. But that isn't true. Migraines are vascular headaches. True they hurt really really bad, but so do tension headaches.

Tension headaches can mimic migraines or even trigger migraines. Most people we encounter have a mixture of headaches. Meaning, one is causing another. Can we help? We sure can, but first must figure out which is causing which headache. Diagnosis is key. If your medications are not working then it is time to seek a second opinion. Does this mean your doctor doesn't know what they are doing? No, it certainly does not. They might just be overlooking something.
